Dr. Jane Leon is a licensed veterinarian. She just completed her sixth year on the
staff of the Omaha Vaccine Company, where she has provided information relating to the health and well-being of animals for
pet owners throughout the United States, responding to pet-related questions via telephone and Internet and providing informative,
up-to-date articles for the company’s catalog and web site.
Dr. Leon hosted Ask The Veterinarian, a television series
that aired daily on America’s Health Network from 1996 – 1999 and was recently seen on Fox’s The Health Network. On Ask The
Veterinarian, Dr. Leon interviewed expert guests, demonstrated animal products, discussed pet health tips, and introduced
common and unusual animals. She also provides highly visualized answers to viewers’ call-in and studio audience questions
on a variety of topics related to pet care and veterinary medicine.
Dr. Leon has been a clinical veterinarian for more
than 20 years and currently has privileges at the South Orlando Animal Hospital in Orlando, Florida. She serves on the Board
of Directors of the Wildlife Rehabilitation Center of Central Florida, and is the active veterinarian for the Center. Dr.
Leon’s diverse background includes outpatient and in-hospital animal care, emergency service and surgery for pets and exotic
animals, and full-service medical treatment for zoo animals. She has extensive experience in equine care and has been actively
involved in the implementation and regulation of animal welfare laws.
Currently, she writes and presents the Pet Care
segment of Doc In The House, heard weekly on WMAL-AM radio in Washington, D.C. She is also a featured guest on numerous local
network and public broadcast television programs, and is a moderator for the annual North American Veterinary Conference.
Previously she wrote, produced and presented Pets and People, a nationally syndicated daily radio feature that was distributed
by the Associated Press to more than 1,200 stations around the country. Dr. Leon is a contributing author for Canine
Medicine and Disease Prevention, and Feline Medicine and Disease Prevention, published by Animal Health Publications. She
has also authored three books, entitled, A Dog for All Seasons, A Cat for All Seasons and Becoming Best Friends. Excerpts
from these books have been used in several national pet care magazines. Additionally, she has reviewed, edited and added
introductions to books by other authors on animal care. She is also actively involved in public education teaching classes
at all levels in Orange County.
Dr. Leon received her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine from Cornell University. She
also studied aquatic veterinary medicine at Woods Hole Marine Biology Laboratory in Massachusetts.
